How ViBo got here

51 posts · 28 Dec 2025 – 2 Oct 2026

One post for each milestone, from the first commit to the latest release, in the order things happened. The dates come from the public release log.

Full release log

December 2025

001First commit

Day one

ViBo started on 28 December 2025 with a single commit: an empty Next.js app.

By the end of that day it had cards you could drag around a page and a way to import pictures from Pinterest.

This page tells what happened next, one milestone at a time, in order: what shipped, when it shipped, and what it changed for the people using it.

The full release log is public at vibomaker.com/changelog

002v0.01

Cards flip

Version 0.01 shipped on 30 December 2025, two days after the first commit.

The main idea was already there: every card on the board has two sides. The front holds the picture of what you want. Flip it over and the back has a coaching template to fill in, built on one of four frameworks: Identity, Environment, Community and Habit.

That release also pulled images and videos in from Pinterest links and accepted drag-and-drop uploads.

Cards still flip in the current version.

003v0.02

It remembers

Version 0.02 shipped on 31 December 2025.

It added the two things a board needs before anyone can trust it with real work: it saves itself every 30 seconds, and it keeps earlier versions you can restore from a list.

Restore points are still part of ViBo, and since version 0.9.61 they move into your account with your board when you sign in.

January 2026

004v0.03

Sign in with Google

Version 0.03 shipped on 1 January 2026: sign in with Google.

It laid the groundwork for having one board across several devices. Signed-in users saw their name and picture in the top bar, and the board started checking whether your work was only saved on this device, with a gentle prompt to sign in if it was.

The cloud sync that used it shipped the following day.

005v0.04

Boards in the cloud

Version 0.04 shipped on 2 January 2026: boards moved into a cloud database.

Signed-in boards now followed you between devices. Offline, the board kept working from local storage and synced when the connection came back.

The "Saved" label also started showing the time your board actually reached the server, so it was clear when work was safe.

006v0.05

Menus that know which side you're on

Version 0.05 shipped on 3 January 2026.

It was a small release about menus. Right-clicking the back of a card now opened the back-side templates directly, flipping a card with the menu open switched the menu to match, and clicking elsewhere on the board closed open menus instead of leaving them stacked up.

None of it is visible in a screenshot. All of it is noticeable when it's missing.

007v0.06

No edges

Version 0.06 shipped on 8 January 2026 and turned the board into an infinite canvas.

You could zoom with Ctrl and scroll, pan by dragging, and new cards appeared in the centre of your current view rather than in a fixed corner. First-time visitors also got a short visual guide, since none of those controls are obvious on your own.

008v0.8.0

It got a name

Version 0.8.0 shipped on 18 January 2026, and the app got its name: ViBo, short for Vision Board.

The same release moved board history out of the browser and into the cloud. Browsers cap how much a site can store, and large boards with long histories were reaching that cap. Keeping the last 20 versions on the server removed the limit and made undo work across devices.

009v0.9.0

More than one board

Version 0.9.0 shipped on 20 January 2026 and was the largest release of ViBo's first few months.

It added multiple boards (up to ten each), a friends sidebar for viewing other people's boards in read-only mode, YouTube videos that play on the board, shapes, and a choice of backgrounds for each board.

010v0.9.1

Guest boards keep their history

Version 0.9.1 shipped on 2 February 2026. It fixed restore points for people using ViBo without an account and added clear success and error messages to saving and loading.

It was also the last release for five months. The next post on this page explains what happened in between.

July 2026

011Data-loss fix

What went wrong, and the fix

ViBo's first run ended because of a data-loss bug.

Boards made without an account were stored only in the browser. Clearing browser data deleted them, and there was no server copy to restore from. Some users lost boards this way.

The fix landed on 11 July 2026. Every board is now backed up to the server whether or not you're signed in, and boards that existed only on a device were backed up automatically the next time they were opened. That fix is what made it possible to start releasing again.

01228 July 2026v0.9.2 – v0.9.6

Five releases in one day

On 28 July 2026, ViBo shipped five releases in one day, versions 0.9.2 to 0.9.6.

New accounts started with three ready-made template boards. Feedback could be sent from inside the app. A board open in several tabs or devices stopped drifting apart: a stale tab now refreshes itself, and newer work is never silently overwritten.

It was the first release day after the five-month pause.

01328 July 2026v0.9.5

You vote on what's next

Version 0.9.5 added a ballot to ViBo's Guide on 28 July 2026.

Users pick the feature they want built next from a short list, and the results inform the roadmap. Since version 0.9.25 the ballot also shows the current results once you've voted.

If you use ViBo, the ballot is in the Guide.

01428 July 2026v0.9.6

Version 0.9.6 shipped on 28 July 2026. Any pasted link now becomes a card, and YouTube and Spotify links play directly on the board.

The release also added drawable arrows, brackets for grouping cards visually, and proper touch controls for phones and tablets.

016v0.9.8

Paste anything

Version 0.9.8 shipped on 4 August 2026.

You can paste a picture, a link or plain text directly onto the board, including Pinterest pins. Importing images from links became much more reliable, and when an import still fails, ViBo explains why instead of giving up silently.

018v0.9.11

Lock and layers

Version 0.9.11 shipped on 6 August 2026 with two layout controls: locking a card in place, and moving cards forward or back in the stack directly.

Both matter most on larger boards, where a background image or frame should stay put while everything else moves.

021v0.9.13

A board that fits your phone

Version 0.9.13 shipped on 16 August 2026 and focused on phones.

Three controls that were out of reach on small screens became reachable, and panels started scrolling independently instead of moving the board behind them. The release also added mirroring for selected cards.

023v0.9.15

Mind maps

Version 0.9.15 shipped on 20 August 2026 with connectors: link two cards and ViBo draws the relationship. It was the foundation for the mind maps, org charts and trees that came later.

The release also cut image upload sizes substantially and stopped guest boards from re-downloading on every view.

Cards that are alive

Version 0.9.16 shipped on 22 August 2026 with the first live cards: a countdown to a chosen date, current weather for a chosen place, and a wishlist that totals itself with tax.

Live cards update on their own, so a board can show how far away a goal is, not just what it looks like.

Users can now create live cards themselves, and pasting a map link turns the card into an interactive map.

The picture card's settings panel was also cleaned up, removing two buttons that appeared twice.

Version 0.9.21 shipped on 27 August 2026 with stickers: pins, washi tape, writable sticky notes, scribbles and a highlighter.

The corner they both wanted

Version 0.9.23, shipped 29 August 2026, fixed a small but frustrating bug.

The "Saved & backed up" confirmation appeared in the same corner as the Add button and, while visible, intercepted its clicks. Pressing Add during those few seconds did nothing. The message now lets clicks through.

The board asks how it's going

Version 0.9.24 shipped on 29 August 2026 and added check-ins.

Most vision boards are made in one sitting and rarely revisited. Check-ins let the board ask how a goal is going, so a board made in January still gets looked at in March.

The Guide, in its own words

Version 0.9.27 shipped on 4 September 2026 and reverted a change from earlier that day.

Version 0.9.25 had rewritten nine paragraphs of ViBo's Guide on the assumption that they read like machine-generated text. They had been written by hand, and the rewrite made them worse. Version 0.9.27 restored all nine exactly as they were.
