What a timeline is
“A timeline is a list of events displayed in chronological order. It is typically a graphic design showing a long bar labelled with dates paralleling it, and usually contemporaneous events.”

When to use a timeline
History
Put each event where its year falls, like the Wright brothers in 1903 and the Moon landing in 1969, and the gaps show how fast things changed.
School
Good for a class project: pick six or eight moments from a topic, give each a date, and the line puts them in order.
Explaining
Tell a story from start to finish by walking along the line, one card at a time.
